Mobile Advertising to Capture 6% of Total Ad Spend

Mobile advertising will make up for 6 percent of the total global ad spending in 2018, according to a new prediction by Berg Insight.

The research company estimates the total value of global mobile marketing and advertising at $9.4 billion in 2012, growing 26 percent annually and reaching $38 billion in 2018.

The total will equal about 19 percent of the total online advertising market.

Search advertising will represent about 50 percent of the total followed by display ads and messaging.

“Mobile devices are on average devoted a double digit percentage of consumers’ time, yet the channel only attracts a few percent of the total global ad spend,” said Rickard Andersson, a senior analyst at Berg Insight.

This discrepancy is the result of mobile being relatively new as an advertising medium versus the high growth rate of mobile consumptions in recent years, Andersson said.

The mobile market will correct itself in the coming years, resulting in a fast growth rate for mobile advertising, Berg predicts.
